Visitor Visa

Visitor Visa

The Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) allows individuals to travel to Australia for tourism, to visit family, or for certain short-term business activities. It is a temporary visa that does not permit work or study for more than three months. This visa is primarily assessed based on the applicant’s genuine temporary stay intention, which requires strong ties to their home country and compelling reasons to return. It is often used by tourists, family members visiting student relatives, or individuals on short exploratory trips.

Stream Flexibility
Offers various streams (Tourist, Business Visitor, Sponsored Family) catering to different needs and lengths of stay.
Length of Stay
Typically granted for stays of 3, 6, or 12 months. Repeat applications may be granted longer validity periods (up to five years).
Short-Term Study
Permits study or training for a maximum of three months (or less) during your visit, suitable for short professional development courses.
No Work Allowed
Strictly prohibits engaging in paid employment or selling goods/services in Australia.
Can I extend my stay while in Australia?
It is possible, but not guaranteed. If your current visa has a "No Further Stay" condition (Condition 8503), you cannot apply for a new visa while onshore, except in very limited circumstances.
What is the genuine temporary entrant requirement?
You must satisfy the Department that you intend to stay in Australia temporarily and will return home. Evidence often includes employment letters, proof of assets, or family commitments in your home country.
Can a visitor visa be used to start a student visa?
Generally, no. Most visitor visas come with a Condition 8503 (No Further Stay) to ensure compliance. You usually need to apply for the Student Visa from offshore.
What is the health requirement for this visa?
Health checks may be required based on your country of residence, planned length of stay, and intended activities (e.g., if you will be visiting a hospital).
